The 116000 Hotline is operated by national organisations in each of the 32 European countries. In the Netherlands the hotline is operated by the International Child Abduction Center (Center IKO). You can find the contact details of the other organisations here. The hotline is available 24 hours a day.

The 116000 Hotline is coordinated by Missing Children Europe (MCE). MCE is a European federation working against the issue of child disappearances. The 32 countries work together cooperate with the intention to implement "Best Practices" on an European level. They collaborate to prevent child disappearances in the most effective way. Besides the annual reports, MCE has published the "Practical guide for hotline operators" in order to ensure that all the countries operate the 116000 Hotline in the same way.

Procedure

When a child has gone missing, please contact the 116000 Hotline. The staff of the 116000 Hotline provides parents, children and family support when they are dealing with a missing child or when a child has run away. The employee gives you the necessary psychological and legal counseling. The employee also discusses with you which other relevant authorities or professionals can help you in taking the appropriate steps in order to locate your child.

Every day children go missing, not only in Netherlands but also worldwide. The problem of missing children is complex and has no boundaries. The impact for the left behind families is huge, not only emotionally, but also psychologically. The employee connects parents to national emergency services like the police and other organisations who deal with missing children. When you call the 116000 Hotline abroad, you will be assisted by an employee in the country where you are staying at that moment.

The employees of the 116000 Hotline are trained to guide parents whose child has gone missing and contact the relevant organisations in each individual case. Advice and emotional support can be given to parents, the family, the missing person or third parties involved in this matter when they need this.

All conversations are confidential. More information about this can be found in our privacy policy.
